“The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six.” – Maria Montessori

In most countries parents do not send children to school till they reach 6 years of age. So, basically, children start schooling directly from grade 1. But have you ever wondered the impact early education will have on your child’s development?

Early years of children from birth till the age of 6 are extremely crucial for their overall development. 80% of a child’s brain development happens during this time. This period is a point of great opportunities but also of vulnerability and negative influence for the young ones. When children get a good foundation in their early years then they make great difference in their adulthood and for the next generation.

Did you know – A child acquires most of his personal and social habits before the age of six?

50% of the total intellectual development of the child is completed by 4 years of age. It means if the development is normal, then the child will acquire more knowledge and he will develop his analytical skills and use it for problem solving. It has also been researched that if children are provided with formalized experiences through play then their creative ability will also increase.

Early years of children are plastic and impressionable. This means that they are without inhibition and uncontrolled by external forces. Their thinking is original and flexible. Children are curious by nature and their curiosity to know more along with their imagination helps them to become inquirers at a very early age. For that reason parents need to seriously consider and start investing in their children from very early years to increase their future well-being.

Learning is an ongoing process which starts from the time of child’s conception. Many parents believe that education at an early age will pressurize children and hamper their growth. However, that is not true. In the current generation, pre-school is not about education but about holistic development. The social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of a child will happen when he not only gets home environment but also school environment during the first 6 years of his lives.

Parents should recognize that by sending toddlers to play school from 2.5 years, will help them acquire proper health habits, they will develop language and speaking skills, they will gain social and educational values through the medium of play, their mental and physical growth will develop adequately and they will learn to become independent. Most importantly, early education for toddlers helps them to transit from play school to primary school quite easily.

Children are like delicate flower. They particularly need personal attention, care and learning experiences. Early childhood education will give them all that plus much more which will help shape their future for the better.
