  • And give them opportunities for intellectual growth

How to choose the right pre-school curriculum for your child?

Every parent is concerned about giving their child the right kind of education. Surely even you must be researching on which is the best school for your child when he is just starting to step out into the world of learning. Besides school timing and proximity here are few points to consider for parents when they are short listing the pre-school curriculum and educational institutes:

  • A pre-primary program should be such that it makes a positive impact on child’s achievements and development
  • School curriculum should promote learning while keeping in mind the child’s physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and language development.
  • The teachers and staff of the school should be well trained and supportive towards the needs of the little ones.
  • The activities that the children participate in should be engaging, clearly instructed, creative and interesting. This is because the attention span of the kids at this age is very less.
  • Parents should ensure that the school does not support harsh discipline and repression for children. Schools should be aware that freedom is essential for kids’ development.
  • A pre-school program should be designed in such way that it involves parent participation in child’s learning and development. Teacher should keep the parents informed about child’s development and daily routine. In short, there should be open and unbiased communication between teachers, school authorities and parents.
  • A good pre-school program should have plenty of activities such as outdoor play, stringing beads, playing with clay-dough, coloring, painting, stripping and cutting paper with blunt scissors, sticking paper, etc for their gross and fine motor development.
  • There should be lot of extra-curricular activities for children to participate in such as singing, dancing, learning musical instrument, arts and craft, reading books, etc. This will help make learning fun and interesting for children and will help in their social and creative development.

There are various pre-school program designed for children such as Montessori, HighScope, PYP, Waldorf program, Kindergarten, Nursery, etc. It depends where you want to send your child. But, remember whichever program you send your child in, he should be happy, there should be scope for growth and enjoyment, and your child should be excited to learn along with other children and adults.  So parents and teachers, which curriculum do you think is best for a child’s development?
